Yes, I can tell your fascination with him no doubt, and yes indeed for good reason. It's good you have this realization sooner than later that you are finding your own as an artist. To many find it to late or never at all. In turning either lacking skill or becoming clones of others if it were... He is one of the few surviving artists that keep hold and truly execute the old master technique. Yes, of course I've seen his books, I have them ALL! Also in my travels and while living in New York for a few years I was lucky enough to see his work on a regular basis being friends with one of the galleries that represents him. A number of my teachers that the NYAA [link] were also personal friends of his. I'm sure you've read his books about his life and thoughts on art (key - "On Kitsch") and yes the stories are all true. I also hear he is quite the sarcastic character.
A few other things I thought I would let you know. Once a year he has a workshop where you can travel to his home overseas for I think a number of weeks, if not a month or two. I had a few friends that went, and they said the prices are very much comparable to other workshops, so it can be somewhat affordable. The way my friends applied were by showing work to the Forum Gallery through an application situation for Odd. One artist in particular I think you should check out now knowing that you are interested, is one of my friends and teachers. As for my work at this point... I laugh... You probably won't be interested for another year. I'm currently working on mostly comic book nonesense, but am in talks with my rep and some sponcers that will allow me to get back into figurative realism/surrealism. I'm looking to start a series of large scale Oils in the coming months, so I won't be posting such for a time. None the less we will have to keep in touch no doubt. It's great meeting you Kain, and if ever your interested in finding new figurative realists etc, I've grown to know more than a few I could let you know about, many of which I've met and spoken with. Email is probably the best, not here on DA...

Thanks Wade. Yeah Odd's great. I have slowly been steering away from him in the last year or so, but i guess I'm just finding my own feet. You can't really go past Nerdrum for technical mastery of the old master style. Have you seen his books? The most recent one is amazing! Really money well spent.
